The George H. Moor Endowed Chair in Business Administration

George H. Moor was a building contractor in Columbus, Ohio and principle in the George Moor and Company construction business during the middle part of the 20th century. As a resident of central Ohio, he and his family were friends of the university for decades until his death in 1976. His charitable trust provided for the creation of an endowed position known as the George H. Moor Chair in Business Administration to be awarded to a professor at Capital University.

Eligibility

The successful candidate for the George H. Moor Chair in Business Administration will be a full-time, tenure-track or tenured, current or newly appointed member of the business faculty and will be recognized by the profession as a respected teacher and scholar. The chair holder will ordinarily receive a 25-percent teaching load reassignment to engage in academic research and promote engagement of Capital University students and faculty with Columbus area companies and major corporations. Based upon the available proceeds of the endowment, the holder may be awarded an annual summer scholarship stipend and may propose an annual budget to foster the purposes of the endowed chair. The appointee may hold the chair for a six-year term, subject to annual review and reappointment, and may be eligible for subsequent reappointment. The holder will submit a budget and an annual report of activity to the provost, the academic chair or dean, and the Moor Committee.

Selection Process

The George H. Moor Chair in Business Administration will be appointed by the president and officially named by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the appropriate faculty, dean of the school of management, and provost.The Moor Committee, which will include the chair/dean of the business school, all tenured faculty members in the department of business, and a representative from the provost’s office, will review nominations for the chair and recommend one or more candidates for appointment.

Ongoing Evaluation and Guidance

The chair holder will lead the Moor Committee and will submit a budget and an annual report of activity to the academic chair and/or dean, provost, and Moor Committee. The Moor Committee, assisted by a liaison from the advancement staff, will provide ongoing guidance to the chair holder on matters related to the endowed chair. The Moor Committee will also provide recommendations to the provost regarding review and reappointment as described above.
